On February 9th, 2010, Northshore School District will have three propositions on the ballot to continue support for student learning. They include:

1.  Capital Projects Bond:  This will continue the district's long-term facilities plan to maintain and renovate aging schools and provide key infrastructure support for clasroom learning.  

2.  Renewal Education Operations Support Levy:   This will renew an expiring levy that provides 20% of the district's budget for daily operations and educational programs.

3.  Renewal School Technology Levy:  This will renew an expiring levy to continue to provide technology and training to enhance classroom learning.

The school tax rate is projected to remain level with the 2010 school tax rate over the four years of the measures at $4.07 per $1000.00 of assessed valuation changes. 


DID YOU KNOW?
1.  During the last levy brought before voters, only 45% of Lockwood Parents voted.
2.  Washington State ranks 44th in the nation for K-12 per pupil spending.
3.  Washington State ranks 46th in the nation for student-teacher ratio.
4.  Washington State ranks 34th in the nation for students graduating on time.
5.  Dropouts from the class of 2008 will cost Washington almost $7.3 billion in lost wages over their lifetimes.
6.  Of 100 9th graders in Washington State, only 69 will graduate on time.
7.  37% of the class of 2004 who attended a Washington State 2 or 4 year college within a year after high school graduation needed remedial courses.
8.  In 2007, 60% of firms surveyed reported they had difficulty finding qualified job applicants, this was UP from 51% in 2005 and 45% in 2003.

To Register to Vote in the State of Washington, you must be:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • A legal resident of Washington State
  • At least 18 years old by election day
  • Not under the authority of the Department of Corrections

You must also fill out a voter registration form.  Forms are available online in multiple languages at the Secretary of State Website www.sos.wa.gov.  Click on the Register to Vote box on the right hand side under "most requested info."

To be eligible to vote, you must be registered to vote at least 29 days in advance of an election.  If registering by mail, your application must be postmarked by the 20th day cutoff or it will not become effective until after the election.  If you have a driver's license, you can register to vote online!
